When you upload new data, new content the activity triggers the search engine BOTs who visit the content and read through – by doing this they crawl your web page, but after crawling the BOTs index your web page, (put the page in their data bank) like the books are shelved in the library ready to be retrieved when needed.

Images need to be optimized too?

Yes, the search engines cannot read images, but then, we must make them able to read the images by adding “ALT text” to the images thus enabling the BOTs to crawl and understand the image and index the images too.
