Dallas, Texas (1VIZABILITY.com) — Google has come up with something; well we can not say something new but with yet another platform to enrich people with information and allowing them to increase their earnings. Just yesterday, Google unveiled its publishing and reference service named Knol, with the aim of providing the searchers with information which is either non-existent or difficult to find on the internet.

Wikipedia; the online service that provides comprehensive information on almost all topics and subjects have just got a competitor. With Knol on its way, how would Wiki respond, will it articles enjoy the same ranking in Google’s search results? Wikipedia, an online encyclopedia has articles that enjoy good ranking on Google search results.
Cedric Dupont, product manger of Knol affirmed that entries in Knol won’t be given any “preferential treatment” in the Google search algorithm. These

entries can only rank higher if the article or information is built with quality content.
What makes Knol different from Wikipedia?

Firstly, Knol, unlike Wiki will not stick to one topic strictly; it will allow users to publish many articles, thus making it a collection of information through individual blogs. It will allow users to comment but not allow users edit other people’s entries. It will allow the publishers of articles to run Google ads encouraging to users of Knol to create a revenue stream for them.

Users can upload photos and text in their articles at present. Google plans to add other media as well to Knol. The users, visitors will be able to moderate the content by flagging the content to mark it as appropriate or as copyright material.

Jimmy Wales, Wikipedia founder’s opinion of Knol is different. While he says that it is too early for say Knol is Wiki’s competitor. He says that Knol is more like a collaborative blogging platform and opinions rather than an online encyclopedia.
