Google leads the race between the top 5 search engines in the US and Europe – Google showed a significant lead over its competitors like Yahoo. MSN and AOL and Ask.com

San Francisco (Reuters): ComScore Inc’s research indicates that the search engine market leader Google further strengthened its position in the month of August. With 63% share, Google showed a significant lead over its competitors like Yahoo. MSN and AOL and Ask.com

While the market share of Google has been far ahead than other top search engine, the August figures show the largest leap in August. Yahoo’s web search share dropped by 0.9% to 19.6 as compared to July. MSN, the third search engine in the lead also showed a drop of 0.6% and stood at 8.3%. Surprisingly Ask.com’s market share grew by 0.3% and it still retains the 4th position with the fifth top search engine ranking was taken by AOL with climbed by 0.1% to 4.3% market share.

The distribution of market share surely marks the competitive edge of Google. Most astonishing factor as reported by the research company is that while the market share of the search engine varied this month the total number of searches performed on the top 5 search engine remained same as July that is 11.75 billion not including searches performed for local directory information and the searches performed by users for mapping.
